Thanks for telling us about the problem. It is easier to view from the opposite like chess player anticipating opponent’s moves. I highly recommend their book to anyone interested in getting behind the numbers as a means of predicting future profits and stock prices. In the author’s defense, they state in the introduction that accounting is assumed, so it’s not really fair to fault them for this. The next chapter discusses expense recognition using a similar framework.
Fridson and Alvarez have written a classic. Filled with real-life examples and expert advice, this comprehensive guide will motivate you to undertake genuine, goal-oriented analysis instead of simply going through the motions of calculating standard financial statement analysis.
